چکیده

Ubiquitous services have gained increasing attentions in the area of mobile communication aiming to allow service access anywhere, anytime and anyhow while keeping complexity to a minimum for both users and service providers. Ubiquitous environment features a wide range and an increasing number of access devices and network technologies. Context-aware content/service adaptation is deemed necessary to ensure best user experience. We developed an Adaptation Management Framework (AMF) Web Service which manages the complexity of dynamic and autonomous content adaptation and serves as an invisible enabler for ubiquitous service delivery. It remains challenging to manage the tasks involved in the communication between the AMF Web Service and the user’s environment, typically represented by various types of intelligent agents. This work presents a middleware which manages those tasks and serves not only as a protocol gateway, but also as a message translator, a service broker, a complexity shield etc., between AMF Web Services and User Agents.

Impact of Control Theory on QoS Adaptation in Distributed Middleware Systems

In ubiquitous computing environments, various distributed multimedia applications will be desired. Examples of such applications are video-on-demand, video conferencing, visual tracking and others. For these applications to be accepted, they must deliver desired quality of services (QoS) to the users such as desired video frame rate, tracking precision, and minimal loss of information. This is ...

An XML-Based Multimedia Middleware for Mobile Online Auctions

Pervasive Internet services today promise to provide users with a quick and convenient access to a variety of commercial applications. However, due to unsuitable architectures and poor performance user acceptance is still low. To be a major success mobile services have to provide device-adapted content and advanced value-added Web services. Innovative enabling technologies like XML and wireless...

Decentralized Coordination of Distributed Interdependent Services

Current middleware technology for ubiquitous computing connects mobile computers to services in the environment. This is often insufficient because it doesn't address the issue of services depending on other services. The DWARF framework offers a decentralized approach to configuring and coordinating interdependent services. Typical ubiquitous computing scenarios let mobile users access station...
